This a profound physical and psychological process. You are actually bombarded with chemicals and hormones that tell you to eat. Punishing your body with “starvation”, builds a war between your body and mind. The mind becomes a nasty trainer, whipping the poor, frightened dog (oops, did I say dog, I meant to say body) as it tries to keep us alive. You need to become a “Body Whisperer” not a “Body Punisher.” Millions of people are “Body Whisperers” (oh good, I didn’t say “Dog Whisperers). Millions of people tune into hunger and fullness to guide when, what, and how much to eat and eat more than you. They wait the internal cues and they will get enough air, enough food, not too much air, not too much food. Perfect homeostasis. Going hungry disrupts homeostasis. When homeostasis is disrupted they end up having to eat 1200 calories (kcals) just to maintain the weight they were before their first diet when they were eating 2000 calories. Hunger does not just disrupt our physical homeostasis, going hungry also wigs us out emotionally.
