The human body is wired for homeostasis.  Your body reacts to deprivation by making you extra hungry. This a profound physical and psychological process. You are actually bombarded with chemicals and hormones that tell you to eat.

Punishing your body with “starvation”, builds a war between your body and mind. The mind becomes a nasty trainer, whipping the poor, frightened dog (oops, did I say dog, I meant to say body) as it tries to keep us alive.

You need to become a “Body Whisperer” not a “Body Punisher.”

Millions of people are “Body Whisperers” (oh good, I didn’t say “Dog Whisperers).

Millions of people tune into hunger and fullness to guide when, what, and how much to eat and eat more than you.

Despite tremendous will power, it is very likely you believe you gain weight because you can’t conquer hunger.

You might believe that it is because you eat too much, that you weigh too much.  This thought probably haunts you.

And yet, how often do you actually think about the fact that many people eat more than you do and are actually slimmer.

How often do you think back to your own life before your first diet, and realize that you ate in a carefree way.  And weighed less. 

To the intuitive eater, eating follows the same logic as breathing.  They wait the internal cues and they will get enough air, enough food, not too much air, not too much food. 

Perfect homeostasis.

Going hungry disrupts homeostasis.  When homeostasis is disrupted they end up having to eat 1200 calories (kcals) just to maintain the weight they were before their first diet when they were eating 2000 calories.

Why fight hunger? Why not embrace the moment and surrender to your body.  You don’t try to control your breathing…uour water intake…why should food be any different?

We have baroreceptors to help us breathe a perfect amount.  Intuitively.

And we have leptin, peptides, ghrelin and a host of other hormones telling us when to eat and how much. A perfect amount. Intuitive eating.

Why should we ignore these cues?  Dieting is NOT working for 95% of us.

Hunger does not just disrupt our physical homeostasis, going hungry also wigs us out emotionally. 

When we forbid ourselves food, a requirement for survival by the way, a bunch of dsyfunctional beliefs crop up.
